Senior veteran Joe Tasby was brought to Southern Hills Hospital in Las Vegas. He had heart arrhythmia and an illness in his lungs so he was brought to the hospital.
Joe, like many other veterans, has a service dog. His faithful companion is named Cupid and he never leaves his side. His daughter would pay them a daily visit, and she would see to the dog’s needs.
Joe places much importance on Cupid. In addition to providing comfort, the dog does many useful activities. He went to a hospital that permitted service dogs to stay with their owners, which was fortunate.
Everything was proceeding normally until the medical facility was placed on lockdown.
When Joe learned that no more guests would be permitted, he began to panic. No one was going to be responsible for Cupid.
Thankfully, a compassionate and generous nurse worked at that hospital. Most of the personnel were hardworking and pleasant, but Barbara Borbeck went beyond the call of duty to assist the veteran.
The nurse recognized that Joe needed his dog, so she took care of both of them.
When the lockdown began, Barbara would arrive at work earlier than usual and use the additional time to take Cupid for a walk. She walked her around the hospital, visiting the different departments, and they would go outside so the dog could get some sun and fresh air. The daily activities not only helped the dog get exercise, but also made the other employees happy.
In addition, Barbara ensured that the dog was fed, with the occasional treat, of course. She went the extra mile by visiting multiple stores in search of the special dog food that Cupid ate. The nurse took care of everything the canine needed.
When Joe was eventually discharged from the hospital, he realized there was no way he could adequately convey his gratitude for what the extraordinary woman had done for him. His dog would have been taken away from him if not for Barbara.
