Toby’s world was flipped upside down when his family opted to foster a blind Staffordshire terrier puppy. Toby has been used to living as the only dog in their home but things changed when the foster puppy joined them.

Amos, who was born blind, required surgery and four months of recuperation at home. Amos’ foster parent, Jess Martin, knew she could never let Amos go when his medical foster care ended. She had already come to love the pup.

Toby, who was 9 years old and quite settled in the home, was not particularly friendly with other dogs by nature. So when Amos joined the family as a foster dog, they had a few initial squabbles. But soon enough, Toby and Amos quickly settled into a rhythm of living together well and harmoniously.

When Jess and her dogs went for walks, Amos was very terrified, especially of the noises around them. Toby soon realized that Amos needed his help so whenever Amos stopped, Toby would lie next to him until he was ready to go on.

Toby is always available to guide Amos around. He is there to show Amos the way to the water bowl, would unlock a door for him, or simply cuddle on the couch. They also go through training and the two dogs even work on synchronized commands.

Jess and her husband Billy were keen to offer Amos an upbringing and lifestyle comparable to that of any dog that can see.

Amos has truly discovered how to let his light shine as a result of the help that Toby the terrier gives him. Toby is always by Amos’ side, no matter what the task is. They even go on frequent treks and adventures and even go around to explore what the world has to offer.
