Can Special Relaxing Music for Dogs Help Soothe Anxious Pets?
I just ran into a very helpful Youtube channel called Relax My Dog. Essentially they create very special relaxing music for dogs designed to help anxious canines.
If your dog suffers from separation anxiety, boredom, depression, sleep problems hyper activity or similar afflictions you might find this channel very useful.
They claim they have helped over 6 million dogs worldwide. Based on the number of views on their videos that might just be an understatement. (over 85 million views at the time of this writing)
Basically Relax My Dog’s music is said to help calm and soothe your dog or puppy in a number of common situations, and is some of the best music for dog anxiety. If your dog has a tendency to whimper or whine when you leave the house, or shows signs of separation anxiety, this quite music is designed to help.
Typical Problems Your Dog Might Have That Sound Therapy May Help
- Crate training
- Fear of thunderstorms
- Stressed out car rides
- Trips to the vet
- Fear of fireworks
- Hyperactivity
- Separation anxiety
- Unwanted barking
- Non stop whimpering
- Barking at visitors
- Anxiety attacks
- Stressful vet appointments
- Meeting other dogs on walks
This isn’t simply relaxing music for dogs, there is actually technology at work here. The science behind this special music is called “sound sweep technology”. It is a high pitched noise that runs behind the scenes so to speak. Very much like a dog whistle. (I would imagine very similar to binaural beats, a subconscious music therapy technique for humans)
Dogs hear two to three octaves higher than humans so while we can’t hear this special frequency dogs do.
This sound holds your dogs attention to the music. This unique form of music can help nervous dogs find peace without the use of medication that may have unwanted side effects.
How Can Music Therapy Help an Anxious Dog?
Using music therapy for your dog can help them stay calm in numerous difficult situations. Reading through some of the comments on their videos there are many many happy dog owners and dogs as well.
I would imagine this would be a great way to rehabilitate rescue dogs, or simply soothe a new puppy of any kind. The stress a dog feels when entering a new home or learning to potty train can be pretty hard on a dog. Finding ways to alleviate that stress in a non invasive manner is truly a life saver.
Therefore playing Relax My Dog’s music during this time helps reduce a dog’s heart rate and relax them while they explore their new surroundings.
Music Therapy for Dogs That Can Help with Crate Training
Sometimes new puppies don’t take well to crate training. This can be a hard experience for new puppies. And hard on the humans who have to suffer along side your new puppy. Relax My Dog has said that many owners have had great success crate training with this music as it soothes and relaxes your puppy.
There are many times throughout the year that can be stressful as well – fourth of July fireworks, thunderstorm season, loud traffic noise perhaps. Even movie night – some of those action movies can get pretty booming with a good sound system.
Can you think of any other situations a soothing music therapy track might help your dog?
