At some point in our lives, unexpected events, such as the death of a loved one, happen. This may be a big shock for us or cause us undue stress that we are left unsure of what to do next. Some people simply let time heal their wounds and move on, while others require significant assistance to cope.

A woman named Jessi recounted the darkest moment of her life and how she overcame it. When she was in graduate school, she met a clever man who became her boyfriend. As with the majority of young couples, they planned their future and discussed starting a family together.

Jessi and her partner were in a committed relationship and were starting a life together. They had everything planned out, and it appeared as if they would realize all of their goals as a couple. But one day, all of their dreams were shattered when Jessi’s lover committed suicide.

Jessi was so disturbed by what happened that she was unable to sleep or eat and she retreated from society. She continued to ponder the cause, and at times even blamed herself. To distract herself from her depressing emotions, she began randomly browsing online shelters for pets.

There, Jessi noticed a photograph of a sad dog and, for some reason, felt a connection with the animal and considered visiting the local animal shelter to meet it. Then, she was accompanied by her father to see the dog and when she did, she fell instantly in love with it. Jessi decided to bring the dog home, naming her Andi, an abbreviation for Andromeda.

When Andi entered Jessi’s life, all of her post-boyfriend-death habits changed. Instead of just simply staying in bed all day, she reached out to her friends once again. Andi was the guiding light Jessi needed to emerge from her despair.
